Meet Novi Schools Student of the Week

Aidan Burr is a classroom leader in his third grade class at Orchard Hills Elementary.

Aidan Burr, 9, third grade student at Orchard Hills Elementary, was nominated by his teacher Kim Deinek as Novi Community School District's Student of the Week because of his many leadership qualities.

He represents his third grade class as part of the newly formed Students Achieving Lighthouse/Leadership Teamwork (S.A.L.T.) Shakers team at Orchard Hills.

Teachers were asked to nominate two students from their classrooms that they felt would benefit in being a part of this team of active student leaders. These students will hold their position until January of each year.

According to his teacher, he is a responsible student and completes his assignments on time and with great detail. He also has an abundance of prior knowledge which he shares in classroom discussions each day.

Burr set a goal earlier this year to start turning in his homework before its due date, in order to be more proactive.  He chooses to have a positive attitude and views his mistakes as a chance to learn something new, according to Deinek.

When asked what he thinks makes him a leader, Burr said:

"Whenever people need help in math, I help them with the work but don't give them the answer. I am independent and also treat everybody equal. I am a good friend. I am a good helper and a good listener."
