Milford Man Charged In Death Of Infant Daughter

NOVI, MI — A 25-year-old Milford man has been charged in the death of his six-month-old daughter. Keith Allen Brown was arraigned Friday on charges of involuntary manslaughter and child abuse second degree at 52-1 District Court in Novi. He could face up to 25 years in prison if convicted on both counts.
Allen is currently being held on $500,000 cash bond pending a pretrial conference at the district court. He is also being held for a previous probation violation for a alcohol conviction, according to an Oakland Press report.
The infant died on Feb. 2 this year. Police and emergency personnel responded to Brown’s Milford Township home shortly after 10 p.m. and found the infant cold to the touch. Extensive efforts to revive the baby were unsuccessful.

Brown told police he was unsure what had happened to his daughter. A subsequent investigation revealed that Brown had fallen asleep on a couch with his daughter between his arm and his body, the Oakland Press reported.
While Brown was sleeping, police believe he shifted and it caused the baby to be unable to breathe. The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s Office later determined her death was caused position/compression asphyxia, the Oakland Press reported.

Brown was not living with the infant’s mother at the time of the incident. Milford Police said the mother left her daughter at Brown’s home earlier in the afternoon while she went to work, the newspaper reported. Police said Brown’s alcohol level was above .31 at the time of the incident, the Oakland Press reported.
