Novi Company's Bala Rajaraman Joins '40 Under 40' Award Recipients

Crain's Detroit Business honors Bala Rajaraman for building his Novi-based information technology startup into a $4.5 million company.

Crain's Detroit Business announced the 2013 class of 40 under 40 honorees last week.

Among this year's recipients is Bala Rajaraman, 38, CEO and founder of Marvel Technologies Inc. in Novi. According to Crain's, Rajaraman built the information technology startup into a $4.5 million company in six years.

He started the Novi-based Marvel Technologies Inc. in 2006 as an information technology services and consulting business and began developing his own software product lines in 2009, Crain's reported. However, the economy then hit hard times.

"Instead of waiting for things to happen, I said, 'Let's use this lead time to build a solution,' Rajaraman said. 'When we come back, we will have an edge,' " he told Crain's.

Now Marvel counts Coca-Cola Co., Delphi Automotive PLC, General Motors Co., Comerica Bank, Caterpillar Inc. and Xerox Corp. among its customers, according to Crain's. Read more about Rajaraman's accomplishments.

Since 1991, Crain's Detroit Business has honored Metro Detroit's high achievers with its 40 under 40 awards. According to Crain's, the purpose of the award is to "honor the best and brightest in Southeast Michigan who have made their marks in business before age 40."
