Novi Ranks as 6th Best Public High School in State
Novi High School moves up five spots from last year's ranking by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.

Novi High School made top spots among America's best public high schools in an annual ranking released Monday by Newsweek and The Daily Beast.
Out of the 82 Michigan public high schools that made the list, Novi ranked in sixth place. Last year, the school ranked 11th.Â
Novi High School also bumped up a few spots in its national ranking. This year, it is the 319th best public high school in the nation, according to the ranking. It was 472nd in 2012, which means Novi ranked above 153 more schools this time than last year.

In an email from the high school, Assistant Principal Robert Baker said this year's ranking is a solid result.
"Congratulations to the whole district for preparing such outstanding scholars," he said.

This year's ranking highlights the best 2,000 public high schools in the nation, based on those that are most effective in turning out college-ready graduates, according to The Daily Beast.
Here's a break-down of this year's ranking for Novi High School:
*Data for each of these indicators were standardized using z-scores, in order to measure the relative performance of each school, and then weighted to produce an overall Newsweek score for each school.
Compared to last year’s performance, Novi High School had a 2 percent increase in graduation rate, an increase in AP and IB tests taken, a 4 percent increase in college-bound seniors, an 11 point increase in SAT scores and a 0.2 increase in average score on AP tests, Baker's email said.
The list is based on six components:
- graduation rate - 25 percent
- college acceptance rate - 25 percent
- Advanced Placement (AP)/International Baccalaureate (IB)/Advanced International Certificate of Education (AICE) tests taken per student - 25 percent
- average SAT/ACT scores - 10 percent
- average AP/IB/AICEÂ scores - 10 percent
- percent of students enrolled in at least one AP/IB/AICEÂ course - 5 percent
Novi High School was also ranked last month by the Washington Post as the ninth most challenging high school in Michigan.
