Do you know Marjorie Karp-Opperer? For some, she's a part of what makes the Novi Public Library great.

We asked Novi Patch readers on Facebook to share what they love about the Novi Public Library. One reader said she loves "Ms. Margi," a.k.a. Marjorie Karp-Opperer, so we set out to learn more about her.

In November of 2013, I will have worked at the Novi Library for 20 years.

What is your position there?

Find out what's happening in Novifor free with the latest updates from Patch.

I began in the youth department as a children’s librarian, was then promoted to Head of Youth & Teen Services, am known by many as “Miss Margi” and am now Assistant Director of Public Services.

What's your favorite part about your job?

I have many favorite parts:

  1. I look forward to coming to work each day. The Staff at the Novi Library are an outstanding group of individuals to work with and the community is remarkable as well.
  2. There are so many aspects of my job that I love and find rewarding.
  3. I am gratified daily as I observe how the Novi Library reaches out to our community and supports their needs by providing the resources that are valuable to them.
  4. I am thankful that we are appreciated in the community and our patrons take the time to let us know that.
  5. I am privileged to have been a part of so many families’ lives and have been able to maintain a strong relationship with them over the years.
  6. It has been wonderful observing the growth of Novi, recounting all the funny, exceptional memories and I look forward to building on these fabulous times.

Why did you decide to become a librarian?

It is a perfect career for me. I adore facts and learning, obviously love to read and working with and helping people makes the circle complete. I have a teaching degree and becoming a librarian was a very easy transition.

What kinds of programs do you organize/help out with at the library?

With my colleagues, I oversee the programs that are offered here at NPL [Novi Public Library]. Whether it be for youth, tween, teen or adult, we all work together to provide educational and entertaining events that our community will benefit from, support and enjoy. I value partnering with other organizations so that NPL can offer the best programs around.

What do you want people to know about you?

I feel very lucky to have a beautiful family and a job that I treasure.
