Novi Ranks Among Top 10 Michigan Towns for Job Seekers

Novi was recognized for its growth in its working-age population and its median household income.

NerdWallet, a consumer advocacy site, released rankings this week for the best places in Michigan for job seekers. Novi made it onto the list.

Novi ranked in 10th place, just behind Portage, which is a city near Kalamazoo.

NerdWallet factored in median income, monthly homeowner costs, population growth and unemployment rates. The analysts asked three questions:

  1. Is the city growing?
  2. Can you afford to live in the city comfortably?
  3. Are most people employed?

In its analysis, NerdWallet recognized Novi for its 2.1 percent growth in the working-age population from 2009 to 2011 and its median household income of $76,561, which is the second highest on the list. The study also acknowledged that the city's largest employers include Providence Park Hospital, St. John Health System, Ryder and Magna.

NerdWallet also mentioned that Novi is home to a Walsh College campus, which provides career services for all students and alumni and offers Blackstone LaunchPad, a program that helps entrepreneurs start their businesses.

Novi was also ranked as the fifth best Michigan town for young families in a NerdWallet study in September.
