Novi Schools Seeks Your Approval of 2 Millages

If approved on Nov. 5, the proposals will renew the district's operating millages and public recreation and playground millage.

Novi residents will find two millage renewal proposals for the Novi Community School District on the ballot in next month's elections.

Answering yes to the proposal questions posed on the ballot will approve the renewal of the millages.

Ballot Proposal 1 asks voters to renew the district's operating millages — both the 18 mills on businesses and the 5.49 hold-harmless mills on primary residences. The operating millage renewals ensure that Novi schools will receive their full state per pupil allocation.

The operating millages account for $17.8 million of the district's $68.6 million dollar general operating fund. These operating millages provide for classroom teachers, athletics, fine arts, transportation, secretarial and support staff, administrative staff, supplies and equipment.

Ballot Proposal 2 asks voters to renew the district's public recreation and playground millage. This .98 mill helps the district support the use of its facilities for public recreational use. This includes the community use of the Novi High School pool, sports fields, gyms and auditoriums. The recreation millage also supports after-school programming at Novi Meadows Elementary and Novi Middle School.
