Oakland County Water Main Break: Thousands Lose Water Service

Thousands of Oakland County residents are under a boil water advisory after a water main break Thursday morning, officials said.

The break happened at 7:20 a.m. on 14 Mile Road, just west of M-5​ in Novi, affecting much of the city, officials said.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Thousands of Oakland County residents are under a boil water advisory Thursday morning after a water main break, according to officials.

The break happened at 7:20 a.m. on 14 Mile Road, just west of M-5 in Novi, affecting much of the city, officials said.

Officials said the break has caused low water pressure throughout Novi. Parts of Walled Lake and Commerce Township were also affected by the break, officials said.

Schools in the area were also closed, including Hickory Woods, Meadowbrook, Mary Helen Guest, Walled Lake Elementary, the Early Childhood Center and Detroit Catholic Central.

Crews were repairing the break and asked drivers to avoid the area. Officials said the repairs will take several hours.

Under a boil water advisory, residents must bring all water to a boil for at one minute and then let it cool before using. Boiled, bottled or disinfected water should be used for drinking, making ice, washing dishes, brushing teeth and preparing food until further notice.
