Police Arrest Man on Charges of Driving Under the Influence

Novi police arrested a man May 23 on charges of driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, according to a police report.  

The Novi fire department closed the intersection of Ten Mile and Wixom roads because of an accident, the report said.

The driver of one vehicle said the two cars collided when he was driving westbound on Ten Mile road through the intersection of Wixom Road on a green light and the driver of the other vehicle turned left in front of him, according to the report.  

His vehicle had heavy damage to the front end, and the other vehicle had damage on the passenger’s side, the report said.

The officer said the driver who turned left had bloodshot and glassy eyes and he could smell intoxicants on him, according to the report. The officer saw the man was wearing golf clothing and there were golf clubs in his backseat, the report said.

The man said he was golfing at The Links of Novi and had two to three beers, according to the report. He took a preliminary breathalyzer test, which had a result of .232 percent blood alcohol content, the report said. The legal limit is .08 percent.

The officer arrested and took him to the Novi police department, according to the report.
