Southbound M-5 To Reopen This Weekend

The M-5 concrete repair project will continue with the northbound lanes being closed on May 15.

NOVI, MI — The $3.5 million repair of M-5 in Novi is about half complete. The Michigan Department of Transportation is planning to reopen southbound M-5 between Twelve Mile Road and Pontiac Trail this weekend — weather permitting. Northbound lanes, between the same roads, will then close starting May 15.

The project began on April 22 and is intended to repair three miles of concrete pavement. MDOT expects the project to be completed in June. In the meantime, drivers can expect to see alternate route signs and construction barrels.

Besides Novi, drivers in Commerce Township, Farmington Hills and West Bloomfield Township are impacted by the M-5 project. Besides the roadway, several ramps are closed:

All mile roads crossing northbound M-5 will have at least one lane open through the intersections crossing M-5, MDOT reports. The eastbound and westbound I-96 ramps to northbound M-5 will be open to 12 Mile Road, where traffic must exit.
