Woman Arrested on Charges of Marijuana Possession

Novi police arrested a woman 3:21 a.m. April 15 near the intersection of Novi Road and eastbound Interstate 96 on charges of operating a vehicle while intoxicated and possessing marijuana and narcotic paraphernalia, according to a police report.

The officer saw a white Ford Focus heading westbound on I-96 slowly traveling between 45 and 50 mph on the posted 70 mph freeway, the report said. The officer saw the driver cross the white fog line four times, exit at Novi Road, make a wide right turn onto northbound Novi Road and not stay in the lane closest to the curb, the report said.

The officer stopped the vehicle, which had a driver and two passengers. According to the report, the officer noticed the smell of intoxicants and marijuana coming from within the vehicle, and the driver’s speech was slurred and her eyes were glassy and watery.

The woman agreed to a preliminary breathalyzer test, which had a result of 0.141 percent, the report said.

The officer searched the vehicle and found a blue pipe in a purse with what appeared to be burnt marijuana residue, according to the report. The officer also found a bag of a green leafy substance and another bag with a similar substance in the center console, the report said.

The driver said the marijuana was hers, although she did not have a medical marijuana card, according to the report. The substance tested positive for marijuana and weighed 8.2 grams, the report said.

The woman had an 8:30 a.m. hearing April 22 at 52-1 District Court.
