Girl Scouts Help Provide Clean Water for Families in Need

The  Girl Scouts (grades K-4) recently completed a meaningful service project to provide clean water to families for a lifetime. The girls collected coins in plastic water bottles and brought to our Girl Scout Christmas Party on Dec. 16; raising almost $700 to provide Household Filters to families who don't have clean water.  These easy-to-maintain filters require no chemicals or electricity—just a natural process that removes harmful microorganisms and pollutants from water collected at a dirty pond or lake. And it only costs $100 to give a family a filter that lasts a lifetime.

Providing clean water, coupled with heath and hygiene education, is perhaps the most preventative measure we can take in keeping our world from infectious disease. Every day, around 5,000 people—most of them children—die from dirty water.  That's why Samaritan's Purse works to provide a thirsty world with clean water and to point people to the "living water" found in Jesus Christ.
