Rochester Hills Awarded for Excellence in Financial Reporting

The following news was submitted by the city of Rochester Hills.

The Government Finance Officers Association has awardedthe City of Rochester Hills with the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the fiscal year ending Dec. 31. The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting.

“This award demonstrates the city’s commitment to go beyond the minimum requirements of general accounting principles by preparing a comprehensive annual financial report in the spirit of transparency and full disclosure,” states Mayor Bryan K.Barnett.

The Award of Financial Reporting Achievement has been given to the city’s primaryemployee that is responsible for preparing the award-winning CAFR, in this case it was given to the City Accountant, Pamela Lee.

“The City has worked hard over the last 25 + years to make sure its financial position is presented fairly based on only the highest standards used in governmental reporting. We are very pleased that the Government Finance Officers Association has recognized all of those efforts and I'm so fortunate to have such a great Accounting staff,” said Keith Sawdon, the City's Finance Director.

Reports submitted to the CAFR program are reviewed by selected members of the GFOA professional staff and the GFOA Special Review Committee (SRC). The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association that serves about 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
