St. Luke's UM Church Works to Rebuild Home

Saturday, April 28th, was a busy and rewarding day for 20 volunteers from in Rochester Hills. As one of several teams of volunteers, they participated again this year in a Rebuilding Together Oakland County home repair event.

RTOC brings volunteers and communities together to provide free housing repair and neighborhood revitalization for low-income homeowners in Oakland County, Michigan. It begins with the support of volunteers, financial sponsors, and municipal governments working together to provide a safe and healthy environment for low-income homeowners. Since 1992, these volunteer partnerships have made it possible to rehab over 585 homes, adding over $5.5 million in market value to neighborhoods and communities in Oakland County.

The home assigned to St. Luke’s received exterior repairs on front steps, rear deck and yard cleanup. The interior received repairs to the kitchen cabinets, painting of walls
in the living room, bathroom fixture repairs and new insulated window blinds. All of this work was accomplished in one day. St. Luke’s participation in RTOC supports the
idea that fixing up existing homes is good for the quality of life of the homeowner as well as supports the value of an existing neighborhood. Youth Leaders Stacy Swank
and John McGill also used this opportunity to train 8 St. Luke’s youth in preparation for their upcoming mission trip in the Appalachian Service Project (ASP) this summer. For
