Orion Township Fire Burning Near Auburn Hills Border

BREAKING: A large outdoor fire is burning in the area of Brown and Joslyn Roads.

ORION TOWNSHIP, MI — The pubic is asked to avoid the area where a massive outdoor fire has broken out on the Orion Township/Auburn Hills border, police say. The fire involves a high-pressure gas main, Click On Detroit reports.

"If you live within the area North of Brown Rd and South of Judah Rd, East of Baldwin and West of Joslyn in Orion Township, Fire Personnel are ordering evacuations," police said in a tweet.

Police later said mandatory evacuations were not ordered and those who live in the area can return home but any bystanders and the public should avoid the area.

The fire is in the area of Brown and Joslyn Roads.

The Oakland County Sheriff's Office said the fire has taken down 911 capabilities. For emergencies only, residents can call 248-858-4930.

The sheriff's office said the gas mains have been contained but they are still advising residents to stay away from the area.

A spokesperson for Consumers Energy told Click On Detroit that the high-pressure line between the two city gates is being shut down so the fire will burn itself out.
