The year 2020 will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most important composers.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — The year 2020 will mark the 250th anniversary of the birth of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most important composers in the western tradition, and Rochester Hills is marking the occasion at the library.
On Thursday, Sept. 19, Dr. David Kidger of Oakland University will explore the influence and impact of Ludwig van Beethoven, one of the most iconic and impactful composers in the history of music, at the Rochester Hills Public Library.
Organizers point out that even two centuries later, the music of this genius composer is instantly recognizable to all, and his music has transcended time to find a place in modern and historic cinema, and influence the evolution of music as a whole.

"This talk will look at how Beethoven was viewed during his lifetime, and how our view of him has shaped musical culture over the last two hundred years. In particular we will consider how Beethoven's Ninth Symphony remains a foundation stone of Western Culture," said Kridger.
