Detroit 6-Day Race at Velodrome

Six days of racing invites spectators to the in Rochester Hills. The Velodrome is host to the Detroit 6-Day Race at 7 p.m. each night this week.

The special race series hearkens back to the 1920s, when the "Madison" style of racing — a two-rider relay on bikes without brakes on steeply banked wooden tracks — was popular. "It's like tag team on Nascar, but on bikes," said Dale Hughes, Velodrome director.

Hughes said the races offer a great opportunity for a family night out — bring your own lawn chairs and even pack a picnic; the race can be viewed from a hillside seat inside the park.
