Explosion Reported at Oil Well Owned by Company Obtaining Local Mineral Rights
1 worker injured near Jackson after driver apparently backed rig into natural gas line.

A June 12 explosion in Leoni Township, near Jackson, at an oil well owned by West Bay Exploration, the company recently signing mineral rights agreements with Oakland County residents, critically injured a worker who apparently backed his truck into a natural gas line, according to the Oakland Press.
The man sustained third-degree burns all over his body, the report indicated.
West Bay Exploration and Jordan Development Company have for months been seeking leases on mineral rights of Oakland County residents, including Rochester Hills, to drill for oil using horizontal drilling techniques. Drilling has not started yet at any of the Rochester Hills sites.
