Learn About How Mount Rushmore Was Carved In Rochester Hills

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — Would you like to know more about the making of the historic and infamous Mount Rushmore? You'll want to join this featured guest in Rochester Hills this month.

On Monday, Sept. 23 the Rochester Hills Public Library will host Lou Del Bianco, as he shares the fascinating story of his grandfather, Luigi Del Bianco, the chief carver of Mount Rushmore.

Del Bianco has spent years researching his grandfather’s legacy through family anecdotes, historical documents, and interviews with US government officials and the National Park Service. His research and personal records have been transformed into a compelling account of one man’s unique and mammoth contribution to the landscape of American history.

“This is a story that is very close to my heart,” said Del Bianco. “I’m grateful for this opportunity to share my grandfather’s story and fascinating American history with the community.”

Del Bianco is a renowned performer and storyteller, and those skills come alive as he shares his family connection to the contribution of the Italian-American experience in the United States. This special presentation is being presented in partnership with the Venetian Club of Mutual Aid.

“We are honored to host Mr. Del Bianco as he shares a one of a kind story about the shaping of our country’s history,” said Community Relations Specialist Amanda Harrison Keighley.

The program is Sept. 23 from 7-8:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Room and is open to everyone with an RHPL library card. This program is geared toward adults but all ages are welcome. Please register in advance at rhpl.org.
