This Local Org Is Giving Out 1,200 Thanksgiving Meals
It takes a legion of volunteers and donations to feed low-income residents across Oakland County this holiday season.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Lighthouse of Oakland County invites metro Detroiters to be a beacon of hope for their neighbors in need this Thanksgiving as it kicks off its Ready, Set, Give campaign with a host of heart-warming events.
Starting Wednesday, the nearly 50-year-old Pontiac-based nonprofit will host several community events to collect and organize food donations and assemble 1,200 Thanksgiving dinner baskets for low-income residents across Oakland County – everywhere from Southfield to South Lyon and Clarkston to Auburn Hills.
Last year, Lighthouse supplied 1,051 Thanksgiving dinners, with all the trimmings, for families in need.

“It really is remarkable to think about the sheer number of individuals who walk through our doors seeking help during the holidays as well as throughout the rest of the year,” said Rick David, CEO of Lighthouse of Oakland County. “Even more moving, however, is Lighthouse’s ability to help, thanks to the generosity and goodwill of many groups and individuals in our community who take the Season of Giving to heart.”
In all, 35,426 individuals were helped by Lighthouse last year alone with nearly 257,000 meals provided by the emergency food pantries.
The Thanksgiving initiative is part of Lighthouse’s Ready Set Give campaign, which also includes Giving Tuesday on Nov. 27 and the nonprofit’s Adopt-a-Family program. This year, Lighthouse aims to help more than 500 families through its online platform that connects donors with people who need help to make the holidays magical.
