Vandal Smashes Historic Stained Glass Windows At Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester: Police
Officials said the attack "appears to be a deliberate act of vandalism."
ROCHESTER, MI — Police are looking for a vandal who damaged a set of historic windows inside Meadow Brook Hall in Rochester earlier this week.
Police said the vandal kicked one window and smashed another window with an unknown tool Tuesday morning.
There is significant damage to the stained-glass windows, which are atop the hall's two-story Gothic-inspired ballroom and depict scenes of the arts, including music, literature, entertainment and Drama, according to police.

Officials said the attack "appears to be a deliberate act of vandalism."
"This is a very distressing situation for all of us at Meadow Brook Hall — from our staff and dedicated volunteers to the many members of our community who have visited, spent holidays here, gotten married here," Meadow Brook Hall's Executive Director Bill Matt said. "Frankly, it is upsetting to anyone who takes pride in having a remarkably beautiful National Historic Landmark in their community."

Officials said the broken windows have been removed and replaced with plexiglass. They hope to restore the windows with as much of the original materials as possible, and return the windows to their original appearance with photographs and sketches of them and their casings.
Meadow Brook Hall, which is 95-years-old, is a National Historic Landmark. The mansion is a museum, cultural center, and event and wedding venue on the campus of Oakland University.
At 88,000 square feet and has 110 rooms, it is the fourth-largest historic home in the country and represents one of the finest examples of Tudor-revival architecture in America.
