No Primary Will Be Held in Rochester Hills City Council Race

Sindy Gensman dropped from ballot after being deemed ineligible.

There won't be a primary election in Rochester Hills this August after all.

Sindy Gensman, one of three at-large candidates who had declared their intention to run before the May 14 filing deadline, was deemed not eligible, according to Rochester Hills Clerk Tina Barton, and will not appear on the ballot in November.

The at-large race was the only city race that had more than two candidates file, which would have triggered an August primary solely for the at-large race. Barton did not know offhand the potential cost of the primary election, if one had taken place.

Candidates had until Friday to withdraw their names from consideration.

Barton said the city is reviewing the status of a second candidate's eligibility. She did not name the second candidate.

Election Day is Nov. 5.

This story has been corrected from an earlier version, which incorrectly stated that the candidates were deemed ineligible on the basis of their petitions.
