Oakland County Executive Patterson Has Stage 4 Pancreatic Cancer
Longtime leader L. Brooks Patterson made a surprise announcement Tuesday, calling the diagnosis "career ending."

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Oakland County Executive L. Brooks Patterson has stage 4 pancreatic cancer, he announced Tuesday from his Waterford Township Office.
The announcement came as a surprise at a press conference and the longtime leader called it “career ending.”
"Alex Trebek has nothing on me," Patterson, 80 said, announcing he was diagnosed on March 15.

Patterson has been in ill health since a 2012 car crash, the Free Press reported, adding that there was already growing speculation that he would not run for re-election next year.
Patterson was first elected County Executive in 1992 and served as an Oakland County prosecutor for 16 years before that. His current term, his sixth term, is up in 2020.
