Oakland County Remembers Fallen Officer Who Died On Thanksgiving
Last Thanksgiving this deputy lost his life in the line of duty. Here's how the county is remembering Deputy Eric Overall.

OAKLAND COUNTY, MI — Oakland County is remembering a fallen hero who died last Thanksgiving.
The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office and Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard will be honoring and remembering Deputy Eric Overall who was killed in the line of duty one year ago on November 23, 2017, which was Thanksgiving Day.
Deputy Overall was responding to a call for assisting in apprehending a suspect who was fleeing Deputies in Lapeer County. Overall set up stop sticks in the roadway and waited to the side for the suspect’s vehicle to pass. Unfortunately, the suspect slowed and after seeing Deputy Overall, deliberately aimed his vehicle and struck him. Deputy Overall succumbed to his injuries after being rushed to the hospital.

“November 23rd will always remain a day of heartache and deep emotions for all of us at the Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Michael J. Bouchard. “I know Thanksgiving has also taken on a different meaning for our personnel and Eric’s family. We miss our brother dearly and commit to continue to honor to his legacy and impact he made on this agency and the community he served. He taught us all the mantra of ‘Never Quit’ and we will make sure we ‘Never Quit’ honoring the ultimate sacrifice he made by putting on his uniform that day.”
Sheriff Bouchard has ordered flags to be lowered at half-staff at Sheriff’s Office buildings and L. Brooks Patterson, Oakland County Executive, has requested flags be lowered at all county buildings as well.
