Oxford High School Shooting: Petition Calls For Stadium Renaming
A petition signed by more than 50,000 wants the Oxford school district to rename the high school football stadium for one of the victims.

OXFORD, MI — A day after a 15-year-old gunman opened fire on classmates and teachers at Oxford High School, friends and strangers alike are pulling together in hopes of memorializing one of the students killed in Tuesday's attack.
On the same day as the shooting, a petition was started to rename the Oxford High School football stadium from Wildcat Stadium to Tate Myre Stadium. As of mid-day Wednesday, the petition had more than 51,000 signatures.
Myer, 16, was one of four students killed when the suspect opened fire around 1 p.m. Tuesday, firing about 15-20 shots from a semiautomatic handgun. Police received more than 100 calls about the shooting and apprehended the teen within five minutes of the first 911 call.

"Tate is not just a hero to his fellow students at Oxford High School but a legend," the petition reads. "His act of bravery should be remembered forever and passed down through generations. He put his life in danger to try and help the thousands of other students at Oxford High School."
Myre was a varsity football player for the Oxford Wildcats at the high school. The team released a social media post remembering Myre.
"It is with great grief that one of the victims of the tragic event at OHS today was one of our own, Tate Myre," the team said. "Tate was on varsity since his freshman year and was an honor student. Tate was a great young man with a bright future and beloved by all. You will be missed, Tate."
