Oxford Shooting: School Unaware Shooter Owned Gun, Officials Say
Superintendent Tim Throne released its account of the details leading up to Tuesday's shooting and announced a third-party investigation.

OXFORD, MI — Oxford Community Schools Superintendent Tim Throne released a letter to school district families Saturday detailing the district's account of the events leading up to Tuesday's shooting at Oxford High School that left four dead and seven others injured.
The school district is asking for a third-party investigation into the shooting and suspected shooter Ethan Crumbley's interactions with students and staff leading up to the shooting, according to the letter.
Throne defended the school's counselors in the letter regarding a meeting between Crumbley, Crumbley's parents and school counselors that occurred shortly before the shooting. Throne said that the parents never told counselors about a recent gun purchase made as a gift for Ethan Crumbley and that he was returned to class after they refused to take him home.

Throne added that reports the gun was in his backpack have not been confirmed by law enforcement officials or the school district's investigation.
Ethan Crumbley, 15, is charged with four counts of murder and seven counts of assault with intent to murder. His parents, James and Jennifer Crumbley, are charged with four counts of involuntary manslaughter and were caught hiding in Detroit early Saturday morning.
