Recyclebank Project Deadline Approaches For Green Schools Program

From Recyclebank: The deadline for residents to turn their trash into cash through the annual Green Schools program is coming to a close. This year, 12 schools submitted projects to make their student's green dreams a reality. Eco clubs, PTAs, teachers, and individual students across the community work together to design environmentally friendly class projects.

University Hills, for example, has benefited from the Green Schools program the past four years. This funding has allowed them to expand their outdoor learning opportunities with several unique projects including garden beds, an outdoor classroom, and a restored nature center.

Since the start of the Recyclebank program, Rochester Hills residents have donated enough points to fund each project at 100%. With millions of donated points, residents have given over $50,000 since the start of the program. This year, 9 of the 12 Schools are still looking for more points to help them hit fundraising goals.

“These grants are a quick and easy way to provide more resources to some of our youngest residents,” states Mayor Bryan K. Barnett. “We always fully fund each green school program and we hope that residents will keep that streak alive.”

Recyclebank members have until March 15 to donate their points. Recyclebank members can learn about the schools project ideas, donate their points and track each school's progress by visiting www.Recyclebank.com/greenschools. Schools will receive $1 for every 250 points donated.
