Rochester Coffee Expert Shares Benefits of Pour-Over Brewing Method

Method offers brewer more control over quality of coffee.

How is your morning coffee prepared?

If you're like millions of Americans who use the automatic brewers in their kitchen or break room, your coffee might not be reaching its full potential, according to Nathan Hamood, the young coffee expert at Dessert Oasis in downtown Rochester.

Hamood says the pour-over method is both easy to prepare and brings out the best in one's coffee.

The process is simple enough, requiring fresh coffee grounds, a filter, a drip coffee cone, your favorite mug and near-boiling water, and takes just short of five minutes to prepare.

Watch the video above as Hamood demonstrates the method. He said his shop at 336 Main in Rochester soon will begin selling the kits.

This process, he says, gives more control than automated methods over such variables as water temperature, grind setting and quantity of water.

"It makes sure we're extracting the coffee in a much better way, essentially," he said.
