School Lockdown: Auburn Hills Elementary Closes After Suspicious Man Seen Knocking On Doors

An Auburn Hills standoff ends without injuries after a man leaves a home with hands in the air and surrenders to police officers.

AUBURN HILLS, MI – An Auburn Hills Hills Elementary School was placed on a precautionary lockdown this afternoon. Police asked officials at R. Grant Graham Elementary School, which sits on Salem Road near I-75, to put the building on lockdown after a suspicious man was spotted knocking on doors along Ashburnham Street.

Auburn Hills Police approached the man and tried to question him, but he fought with officers and then barricaded himself inside a home shortly before 1 p.m., according to a WJBK Fox 2 report. Police said the man stayed in the home for approximately two hours before coming out with his hands up. No injuries were reported.

It’s unclear if the man barricaded himself in his own home or another Auburn Hills resident. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office assisted the Auburn Hills Police Department with the incident, including members of its SWAT team and an armored vehicle.
