Stoney Creek High Band's Spring Concert Planned
The performance will feature the 1812 Overture, among other pieces.

ROCHESTER HILLS, MI — The Stoney Creek High School Band spring concert will be May 10. The evening of music starts at 7 p.m. in auditorium. The Light Calvary Overture, an American Salute and Shostakovich's Folk Dances are just a few of the pieces that will be played.
According to the group’s website, the instrumental music program at Stoney Creek High School has its foundation in the three concert bands that meet every day, all school year. Students are placed into Concert Band, Symphony Band, or Wind Ensemble based on audition and level of experience. In addition to large ensemble study, concert ensemble students have the opportunity to be involved in small chamber ensembles and solo work.
May’s concert will also feature the first movement of Karl Jenkins’ “The Armed Man/Mass for Peace,” which will be played by the wind ensemble., The combined talents of the band will perform the 1812 Overture. The performance will mark the symphonic debut of the Stoney Creek High Jazz Band, too.

The band has been very busy of late. They performed at New York’s Carnegie Hall earlier this month. But that wasn’t the band’s first big performance rodeo. Stoney Creek has also performed at:
- Walt Disney World in Orlando, FL.
- The Cougar Marching Band is a regularly featured ensemble of the Detroit Red Wings.
The band regularly earns top ratings at Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association events, such as Solo & Ensemble Festivals and Band Festivals.
