The 16-year-old boy was seen leaving the school's campus after the attack, according to prosecutors.

Officers found the teen's parents, who cooperated with the investigation, according to prosecutors.

Officers then arrested the teen in connection with the stabbing later that day, according to prosecutors.

Investigators also found a kitchen knife in the bathroom where the attack happened, according to prosecutors.

The school was placed on "soft lockdown" immediately after the attack, Avondale School District officials said in a statement Tuesday.

"This incident is unacceptable. My top priority is ensuring kids feel safe at their school," Oakland County Prosecutor Karen McDonald said. "I’m grateful the victim is recovering. This situation could have been much worse for all involved. The accused assailant, who is just 16, will face serious consequences that hopefully serves as a wake-up call."
