These 2 Congressional Races Now Matter to Rochester and Rochester Hills

When you vote in the primary on Tuesday, you won't see the 9th Congressional district on your ballot. You're now part of the 8th or the 11th: here's some basic info to help you sort it all out.

When residents in Rochester and Rochester Hills go to the polls on Tuesday, they'll see one of two new Congressional district numbers: 8 and 11.

For the past four years, both cities have been represented by Gary Peters in the 9th Congressional District. And although Peters, who grew up in Rochester, is running for re-election, his new race is far from his hometown. Because of redistricting, Peters is now running in the redrawn 14th district, which stretches from Farmington Hills to the Grosse Pointes.

, Rochester and Rochester Hills were split into two districts: The 8th and the 11th. You can figure out which district you are in by inputting some personal information here

Republican candidates:  of Milford;  and  are also running as a write-in candidates.

Democratic candidates:  of Canton and Bill Roberts of Redford.

What makes it even more confusing: The current 11th District Congressman, Thaddeus McCotter, resigned earlier this summer. So part of the 11th District — Novi and some of the other cities that weren't redistricted — are also voting for someone to fill his term for the rest of 2012. Rochester Hills residents will not vote in that separate special election.

Michigan's 8th District

Where it is: All of Rochester, most of Rochester Hills (except the southwest corner that is represented by the 11th district), along with Oakland and Addison townships all the way west through Lansing. (See the map attached to this story.)

Republican candidates: Mike Rogers (the incumbent) of Brighton; Brian Hetrick of Brighton and Vernon Molnar of Holly.

Democratic candidate:  of Lansing.
