PurplePTSD: After Week 1, PFF Suggests Cousins Is Top Tier, Rodgers League Worst

In the grand scheme of things, one week of football means very little. Even still, this analysis from PFF may make your purple heart happy.

Yesterday, Kevin Cole published a piece where he ranks 32 QBs following the season’s opening week. He begins with some charts and discussion of his methodology. Head on over to the site itself if that’s your thing. Here’s where things get interesting, though: the ranking of the NFC North QBs.

Kirk Cousins, surprisingly enough, is coming in at 6th overall in Cole’s chart. Personally, I think Cousins played good-but-not-great on Sunday. To his credit, he put us in a position to win at the end. A questionable fumble call on Dalvin Cook and some shoddy defense in OT led do our demise (I hasten to add that the refs aren’t to blame for our Week 1 loss).

From there, the next NFC North QB is Andy Dalton, who is coming in at 26th on the chart. Jared Goff is next at 29th. Aaron “Voldemort” Rodgers is all way down in the last spot: 32nd overall. If I were a betting man, I’d say Rodgers finishes top 5 by the end of the year, but I’d be thrilled to be wrong. Please join me in reliving a Rodgers lowlight from this past Sunday’s game:

Unfortunately, the Packers play the Lions this week. Nothing cures a slump quite like a date with the Detroit Knee Biters. Cousins, in contrast, will be trying to fend off attacks from Arizona’s fearsome pass rush.

That PFF QB chart may end up looking a lot different heading into Week 3.
