General voting information

In July, postcards were mailed to all registered voters in the city with polling place information. While polling place maps will be posted at every polling place location, it’s easy to save yourself the hassle of showing up at the wrong polling place by doing a little research ahead of time. Voters may only vote in person at their assigned polling place.

The simplest way to check your polling place location is to visit the state's polling place finder or call the Eden Prairie Elections Office at 952-949-8414. A map is published with this article and precincts are listed below.

For polling place rules and etiquette see this guide on Eden Prairie Patch.

Register to Vote on Election Day

Minnesota allows voters to register to vote at the polls on Election Day. Registration is required if you have never registered to vote; if you have changed your name or address (including just moving to another apartment in the same building) since you last voted; or if you have not voted in four years.

According to the City of Eden Prairie, to register to vote you:

  • Will be at least 18-years-old on Election Day
  • Are a citizen of the United States
  • Will have resided in Minnesota for 20 days immediately preceding Election Day
  • Use the address where you currently reside (live)
  • Have any felony conviction record discharged, expired or completed
  • Are not under court-ordered guardianship where a court has revoked your voting rights
  • Have not been ruled legally incompetent by a court of law

Identification Needed to Register

Minnesota state law requires specific forms of identification to register at the polling place. Acceptable forms of identification are listed on Eden Prairie's Election Day Registration page. A valid Minnesota driver’s license, learner’s permit, Minnesota ID card or receipt for any of these containing a valid address in the precinct will work.

Absentee Voting

Absentee voting for the Nov. 6 general election began Friday, Sept. 21, and continues through 5 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5.

Unlike some other states, Minnesota does not offer early voting so that voters can avoid potential lines on Election Day by casting a ballot prior to Nov. 6.

Absentee voting is available if you cannot get to the polling place on Election Day due to absence from the precinct, illness or disability, religious observance, or service as an election judge in another precinct.

Only one option is available now for absentee voting:

  • In person
Visit Eden Prairie City Center, 8080 Mitchell Road, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday, Nov. 5. Here are some reminders about what you can and can't do at your polling place.
