Golden Valley American Legion to be named Business Organization of the Year

The Rotary Club of Golden Valley will honor Golden Valley American Legion Chester Bird Post 523 with its Business Organization of the Year award at a meeting on Tuesday, October 2 at 12:15 p.m.

Tom Parry is a past president of the Rotary club, and a past district governor of Rotary District 5950, to which the Golden Valley Rotary Club belongs.  Parry is also a veteran, so he made a passionate recommendation for the award to the committee of past presidents that chooses nominees.

The Golden Valley American Legion is an organization dedicated to service in the community, which matches the values of Rotary.  The Legion, and its related organizations the Legion Auxiliary, Sons of the American Legion and Legion Riders, sponsors Little League and Golden Valley Girls' Softball teams and a girls' hockey team, and provides support for the Veterans Pheasant Hunt, laptop blankets and bags for workers at the V.A. hospital, and ceremonial services at community events. The Legion also uses funds collected during its annual Red Poppy Drive to assist disabled and hospitalized veterans, as well as provide financial assistance to local charities.
