Armstrong Student Places Second At State Debate Tourney
Andrew Urevig was defeated by Ashesh Rambachan of Eastview in the Lincoln-Douglas finals.
New Hope, Minn. – Andrew Urevig, a sophomore from Robbinsdale Armstrong High School, proved that he is not one to be trifled with. In his inaugural appearance at the Minnesota State High School League (MSHSL) State Debate Tournament, which was held January 13-14 at the University of Minnesota, Andrew finished second in the tournament, competing in the Lincoln-Douglas competition.
“What a great experience for our team at our first ever state tournament,” stated D.J. Brynteson, Armstrong Debate coach. “This was a fantastic weekend for Andrew, all of the Armstrong Debate Team students and coaches. I couldn’t be happier for everyone.”
This is the first appearance for a Robbinsdale Armstrong team at the state Debate Tournament, and the first year that the Robbinsdale Area School district has qualified students from both Armstrong and Cooper High Schools. The MSHSL State Debate Tournament was first held in 1902, which makes it the longest-running event of the Minnesota State High School League.
