City Of Golden Valley: October Is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Month

Sudden Cardiac Arrest can happen to anyone and when you least expect it. October is Sudden Cardiac Arrest Month and the Golden Valley Fire Department (GVFD) wants to ensure all residents know what to do when the unexpected happens.

According to the American Heart Association, more than 350,000 cardiac arrests occur outside of the hospital each year, and about 90 percent of those cases are fatal. The percentage of fatal cases drops to 55 percent when proper bystander CPR is administered.

The GVFD’s Hands–Only® CPR and AED Training class is an opportunity to learn the skills that could save a co-worker, family member, or even a stranger.
