Fall Colors Come to Golden Valley

It's that time of year again. Leaves are falling, and the mornings are getting colder, and colder. Fall is nearly here, and there are some great places in Golden Valley to check out fall foliage.

Lauren Borer, Special Programs Coordinator for the , said that now is the perfect time to take a stroll in the garden. With three different habitats to choose from, Borer said the woodland area presents the most beautiful colors.

"Our trails are wood-chipped, and with the leaves falling down, it's really beautiful," Borer said. "The prairie area is another great place to check out."

According to Borer the garden's New England Asters stay in bloom through the middle of October. Even a few sunflowers are still thriving.

"The fall colors are really spectacular," Borer said. "Right now is a great time to come because it isn't too cold."

According to the Minnesota State Parks Fall Colors Report, most of the state is just beginning to look like fall. At Fort Snelling, leaf color is between 10 and 25 percent turned and fall flowers are 50 to 75 percent in bloom.

Minnesota state parks staff says that Lake Bemidji State Park, Temperance River State Park and Zippel Bay State Park are the prettiest fall destinations right now.
