City Of Hopkins: Curbside Organics Recycling Coming To Hopkins January 1

Beginning January 1, 2022, all Hopkins residential recycling customers will be eligible to participate in the City’s new curbside organics recycling program. 

The City is rolling out the program as part of a Hennepin County requirement for all cities to make organics recycling services available to households with curbside recycling by the first of the year.  

About 30 percent of what we throw away is organic material, including food scraps and food-soiled paper products. This includes fruits, vegetables, meat, bones, bread, eggshells, non-recyclable food-soiled paper and more that can be utilized for composting. Recycling organic waste is more cost-effective and plays an important part in diverting waste from landfills. 

Starting in January, residents who have recycling provided by Republic via the City contract will see an additional $5.50 on their utility bills, regardless of participation in the curbside organics recycling program.
