Famous Battle Has Deep Links to Hopkins
The First Minnesota Regiment made a desperately brave charge at the Battle of Gettysburg.

Despite its small size, the City of Hopkins is tied to one of Minnesota's proudest moments during the Civil War.
According to the Sun Sailor, Janice Pickle Skold's great grandfather Alonzo Pickle was among the 262 men and boys who charged across an open field near Gettysburg, PA on July 2, 1863, and into the pages of history. Pickle's bravery didn't end there. He was present at many Civil War battles and later won the Medal of Honor.
The Hopkins resident's ancestor was a native of Canada and he died in 1925, in Sleepy Eye, MN.
