New tree protection ordinances focuses on sustainability and resilience

The council adopted a new tree protection ordinance. The new ordinance repeals and replaces the city’s existing ordinance to focus more on supporting woodland sustainability and resilience. The council amended the ordinance presented by staff by adding language regarding the proposed tree list, addressing limits on tree removal in Woodland Preservation Areas (WPA), and attaching the existing code to the ordinance as an appendix.

Council recognizes city attorney for award

The council recognized City Attorney Corrine Heine as recipient of the Brown, Mulligan, Rocha Distinguished Public Service Award from the International Municipal Lawyers Association (IMLA). This award is given to a local government employee for significant and surpassing achievements in local government law in the previous year.

No parking zone posted on Dynasty Drive

The council approved a no parking zone on the west and north sides of Dynasty Drive from Monday through Friday between 3:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m. to maintain traffic flow and safety on this roadway. Property owners expressed concern with traffic congestion and limited access to their properties due to parked cars generated by activities at Minnetonka Middle School East. A No Parking zone was zone was added on the east side of Dynasty Drive in 2015, but student pickup in the area has continued to be an ongoing issue.

2022 City Council meeting schedule set

The council adopted the 2022 Minnetonka City Council meeting schedule. Meetings will be held at 6:30 p.m. in the city council chambers at the Community Center, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd. The list of meetings is available in the council agenda packet.

City to issue and sell bonds for water, sewer system improvements

The council approved the issuance and sale of $10 million general obligation utility revenue bonds. The bonds are part of a long-term plan to support the ongoing costs required to keep the aging systems in appropriate working order.

Council approves amendments to zoning, subdivision ordinances

The council approved an ordinance amendment to the city’s zoning and subdivision ordinance to reflect historical city practice and provide more precise direction to staff, property owners and developers.
