Former Timberwolves Star Michael Beasley's Estate Up for Sale in Orono

Extravagant jewelry, designer handbags, high-end furniture and ecclectic works of art will be among the items up for sale this weekend at a mansion in Orono. All are being sold on behalf of former Minnesota Timberwolves star Michael Beasley, who signed a multi-year deal with the Phoenix Suns last month and is quoted by the company handling the sale as saying he was going to "buy all new stuff" for his new home in Arizona.

While Beasley is not mentioned by name in the estate sale's promotional materials, Patch has confirmed that Beasley occupied the home where the sale will take place during his two-year stint with the Timberwolves. 

The sale begins at 8 a.m. Saturday morning, but the Orono Police Department has made clear that parking on the quiet Lyman Avenue will not be permitted.

No sports memorabilia will be included in the sale.

A Minneapolis man named Michael Sweeney legally owns the 7,500 square foot mansion, but Beasley listed the address as his place of residence in several official documents.

Beasley clashed with his Orono neighbors last year after concerns were raised about the number of dogs being kept on the property. When Beasley applied for a kennel permit, nearby homeowners went to the Orono City Council with objections—citing concerns about the number of dogs, the level of supervision being given to them and legal ownership of the animals. One neighbor told the city council he had to watch his two small children closely whenever they were outside because the frequency of dogs running loose had become so regular.

The city council unanimously denied Beasley’s kennel application. 

Beasley was also following an early-morning traffic stop last summer—which did not result in a suspension from the NBA due in large part to a labor disagreement going on at the time between the players' association and league.

Beasley was drafted by No. 2 overall by the Miami Heat in 2008. He played two seasons with Miami before being sent to Minnesota in 2010—primarily so the Heat could clear enough salary cap room to sign free agents LeBron James and Chris Bosh.

Beasley signed a three-year contract with the Phoenix Suns last month that will pay him an average of $6 million per season.
