Friday Crash Kills One Outside of Chanhassen

A Shakopee man was killed in a two-vehicle head-on collision just outside of Chanhassen Friday evening, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.

At approximately 7:20 p.m. Martin Ballines Rios, 40, was reportedly driving a 1996 Saturn south in the northbound lane of Audobon Road near Wildflower Lane in Chaska. His vehicle collided with a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado being driven northbound by Zachery J. Utecht, 19.

Rios died in the crash. He had alcohol in his system and was wearing a seat belt, the State Patrol report said.

Utecht, of Victoria, and his passengers Mallary L. Whittaker, 20, of Chaska, and Jason Bren, 19, of Victoria, all suffered non-life threatening injuries.
