Meet Bridget Anderson: Candidate for Wayzata City Council

To the editor and fellow citizens of Wayzata:

I’m excited to announce to you my bid to run for Wayzata City Council. As a 14 year resident of our great community, I have chosen to make Wayzata my home along with my husband, Jason, and our son, Harrison.

I am choosing to run because as a resident I realized I first had to learn how local city government worked, the components of the various issues at hand and, most importantly, doing the work myself before judging the decisions being made within the city walls.

With this philosophy in mind, I applied for the Wayzata Planning Commission.

After my appointment to the Planning Commission in 2009, I have been reappointed as Vice Chair and been serving the residents of Wayzata in this role for three years. In addition, I am a community member working through various volunteer efforts and participating as a member in various Wayzata organizations.

I also serve on the Lake Front Task Force working for the past 18-plus months developing the steps of a long-term strategic process and plan for the economic revitalization, historic preservation, environmental conservation and recreational creation of the city’s second greatest asset, Lake Minnetonka.  I say second because Wayzata’s greatest asset is its citizens!  

As a professional, I have observed and experienced, along with you, the challenges our small town has faced over recent years with the ever changing economic climate in the world. This significant shift requires us to be in a position to change our perspective from that of conducting business as usual to introducing fresh, innovative perspectives with thoughtful, balanced solutions while allowing us to keep our small town character intact.

The key to our future may lie in our past. This can apply to today more than ever as we lose more and more remnants of past times in American life: the local post office, the independent, small book store, mom & pop landmarks, and the iconic, historical trolley are now mostly memories.  

I believe in Wayzata, and I plan to work hard in remembering who we are as we forge ahead deciding who we should become in this new age. Wayzata can be vibrant and energetic, and I hope to work with both residents and business owners moving Wayzata forward.

The citizens should be the voice of our community, heard and listened to, and I hope you will consider letting me represent you on the Wayzata City Council.
