Orono Kids Selected for State Honor Band—Find Out Who
Just 81 kids made the cut out of 279 who auditioned.

Orono Middle School seventh-grader Betsy Surver (trombone) and eighth-grader Michelle Lensing (clarinet) have been selected for membership in the Minnesota Band Directors Association (MBDA) State Honor Band for the 2011-12 school year.
The girls auditioned this winter for the group and were among 81 students chosen from the 279 who tried out.
The MBDA State Honor Band will be directed by David Mendenhall, a retired music educator. Students will rehearse with him on Saturday, April 21, at Fergus Falls Senior High.

The band will perform a concert at 2 p.m. in the high school’s auditorium.
The honor band is an ongoing program of MBDA, a professional organization of band directors representing band programs of all grade levels from throughout the state of Minnesota. The pair’s director at OMS is DeAnn Kluns.
