Summerfest Wraps Up With a Splash

Community swarms Nelson's Park for grand finale.

Summerfest 2011 capped off a week of events and activities Saturday with fishing, food and family-friendly fun.

Dozens of boats entered a carp tournament organized by the Orono Lions Club that reduced Long Lake's carp population by about 100—including a 10.7-pound beast hooked by Kaylinn Bezner, the largest of the day. The catch netted Bezner the contest's $500 first-place prize. Josh Kovalic took second place with a carp weighing 9.73 pounds, and Bill Bezner's 9.39 fish was good enough for third.

Kids were able to enjoy unlimited bounce time on a trio of giant inflatables equipped with mazes, slides and even a 15-foot climbing wall. Local artists displayed and sold their work while live rock and roll set the day's beat and guests gobbled up a variety of fair-style food.

Organized by the Long Lake Area Chamber of Commerce and supported by a long list of local businesses, Summerfest has become an annual tradition in Long Lake and come to involve dozens of local civic organizations, merchants and community supporters.
