Westonka Wrestlers Lock Horns with Regional Rivals
Whitehawks started the season 3-0 and will be in action both Tuesday and Wednesday this week.
The Mound Westonka/Holy Family wrestling squad faced it’s toughest competition of the year last week and was able to salvage a win along with two losses.
“We knew going into the week that it would be a tough test for us, and I think we fared well considering what we were up against,” said head coach Todd Munsterteiger.
On Thursday, Dec. 15, the White Hawks hosted defending conference champions Annandale/Maple Lake. In a tough-fought battle, the White Hawks fell just short 39-31.

“We lost a couple of close ones and had a shot, but overall we wrestled well," assistant coach Eric Rodelius said. "It was a great dual in front of a big home crowd, and we will definitely learn from it.”
Getting wins for the White Hawks were Sam Bennyhoff, Chris Prescott, John Byers, Tyler Hebig, Bryan Tierney and Will Van Sant.

On Friday, Dec. 16, the White Hawks hosted a pair of non-conference duals at Holy Family High School. In the first dual, the White Hawks held off a scrappy Mongomery-Lonsdale/LeCenter team for a 41-33 win.
“MLLC is a young squad who wrestles hard, and they gave us all we could handle,” freshmen coach John Wardlow said.
Notching wins against MLLC were Cole Peterson, Chris Prescott, Adrian Wear, Ben Rogers, Tyler Hebig, Bryan Tierney, Tyler Ihli and Will Van Sant.
In the finale, the White Hawks wrestled well but came up short in a 41-27 loss to Chaska/Chanhassen. Picking up wins were Sam Bennyhoff, Ryan Reid, Drake Heath, Tyler Hebig, Will Van Sant and Erik Hannigan.
Westonka will be busy in the short week before break, wrestling in quadrangulars at Richfield on Tuesday and Park Center on Wednesday. Start times for both meets is 5:00 p.m.
