The goals are to:
- Power every City-owned building with 100% renewable electricity by 2023.
- Power all homes and buildings in Minneapolis with 100% renewable electricity by 2030.
- Produce 30% of all renewable electricity locally through rooftop solar and community solar gardens.
- Provide training and green jobs to residents.
- Support expansion for small business owners and contractors who are Black, Indigenous, people of color, and immigrants.
- Reduce energy costs for consumers through efficiency and lower electricity costs.
- Increase the health of residents in communities that are more vulnerable to climate change such as Green Zones.
Some in our city – including renters, people with lower incomes, Black people, Indigenous people, people of color and immigrants – are more vulnerable to climate change. The recently released draft plan suggests ways we can achieve the 100% renewable electricity goals in a way that helps everyone.
