“These courts have been an important part of this park for more than 80 years,” said Superintendent Al Bangoura at the grand opening event. “We look forward to many more years of people enjoying tennis, and watching a new generation learn and play. And I say that not just as Superintendent of the Minneapolis park system, but as an avid tennis player and fan myself.”
The Morgan Courts reconstruction was one of several projects in which the Park Board has partnered with Support the Courts to help renovate and rebuild tennis courts in parks across the city.
In addition to Love Morgan Courts and Support the Courts, multiple other organizations and agencies contributed to the planning and funding of the courts, including:
- The U.S. Tennis Association
- Hennepin County Youth Sports program
- The Washburn High School Foundation
- Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association
- Other induvial donors
The courts, located in Minnehaha Regional Park at Morgan Ave South at West 52nd Streets, are heavily used by the Minneapolis tennis community, including InnerCity Tennis and the Washburn Tennis teams.
