It’s bittersweet for us as we say “Happy Retirement!” to Sgt. Mike Nelson.

Nelson joined the department in February 1996 as a patrol officer. During his tenure, he served as a field-training officer, SWAT team member and leader and a detective assigned to Ridgedale Mall. He was also the first school resource officer assigned to the Bren Road Educational Center.
In 2010, Nelson was promoted to sergeant. In addition to working as a patrol supervisor, he also manages the police detention facility and bike patrol unit.

Among his many contributions, Nelson was among a team of Minnesota officers selected to work the 58th Presidential Inauguration in January 2017 in Washington, D.C.
